“The New Testament does have extraordinarily beautiful and profound material in it. Paul’s hymn to love in First Corinthians or the parables of the Good Samaritan or the Prodigal Son, or comments such as “God is love,” which is First John. This is magnificent material, and everybody ought to appreciate it. I find for myself the more I read the New Testament, in fact the better Jew I become.”

I love the bibles that have the middle column with the scriptural references. A close reading of those show much of what is in the New Testament is in the Old Testament. New Testament either tells a story with it or paraphrases it. I adore because it puts scripture in a new light. What always amazes me is most of the verses and references are about love–crazy extravangant love and tough love. It reminds me that the theme of love runs like threads in a tapestry through each chapter starting in the Old Testament and explodes in all its glory with Christ in the teachings and parables. My favorite is the ACTS where love is put into practice by laity. 🙂
