+Kindred, Houston in Montrose

This was a first on so many counts. This is the first ordination in our synod that was done at a dinner church celebration. This is the first time an ordinand prepared a meal himself for the reception. And so much more. Kinnon’s candidacy was a journey of 15 years. Kinnon is the first deacon in our synod to be ordained to a unique ministry of feeding and apprenticeship. But Kinnon is no ordinary deacon.

Kindred Kitchen involves +Kindred Montrose plus a food truck. Their mission is to provide pathways out of poverty for Houston’s young people using the power of the kitchen and the table to achieve their vision of success. They provide students with twelve weeks of culinary, life skills, and job readiness training that will prepare them for a variety of food, hospitality, and general employment positions. They are training people to feed others while also giving them valuable life skills.
