Instead of eating oysters shucked this morning, we’ll now be flying in our oysters from the West Coast, at 30-40% higher price. Not only has the oil spill contaminated oyster beds, but methods of dissipating and cleaning up the oil are also contaminating. Key oyster brands are out of business for the next two decades, maybe more. The Valdez spill changed fishing in Alaska permanently. I took that fried oyster poboy last January for granted. And I thought Katrina had taken the economy down as far as it could go. Now we’re bracing for a new wave of unemployment poverty.
