I am possessed of the growing realization that the gospel is simply too radical for most churches. The idea that God love all people equally, regardless of how good their works are, is simply too blasphemous for the religious mind. The good news is too good to be true. And a religion of the Spirit is simply too wishy-washy. It’s so much easier to revert back to a religion of the law that divides things into black/white, do/don’t, in/out.

A Jesus who welcomes and eats with sinners is as scandalous today as he was to the Pharisees.
