The fear of words like “social justice” is a white male thing. Us privileged folks don’t experience the lack of fairness in society as acutely. We don’t see the need. It struck me wirshipping at Principe de Paz yesterday: Latinos get the Bible’s message of social justice (Micah 6:8 et al). The black church has always preached it. Women, the last to get the vote in America, get it. Us male cronies are afraid of change, of losing our status and privileges. Please don’t shake up te social order. We like it just like it is, thank you, so much so that we can listen to Jesus week after week and not hear what he’s actually saying.
