I love the idea of gluten-free communion bread, which uncomplicates communion, and doesn’t sing out those who are gluten-free. The options are getting better all the time.
Recently I had some homemade gluten-free communion bread at Christ the King Houston. Linda Marx graciously shared the recipe she used.
Six years ago, I shared a simple, easy-to-make recipe for communion bread using gluten-free Bisquick. Four ingredients. 30 minutes.
This challah bread is a bit more complex, but it excels over the Bisquick bread as the sun surpasses the moon.

Challah bread is a ceremonial Jewish bread used for celebrations, so it’s quite appropriate. The recipe is braided, but you can also form it into simple round loaves scored with a cross which makes it easy to break into quarters. This bread is delicious.

It came out perfectly the first time I tried.
