Let us explore the allegation that 200,000 people are in prison and a half are non-violent drug offenders. What percent were selling drugs to minors? What percent were selling drugs as a lifestyle and were sent to jail for one of the few times they were actually caught? How many did commit unreported violent acts to support a drug habit, like muggings and street crime? How many carried small amounts of drugs at one time because they knew if it was over a certain kilogram they would be incarcerated as dealers? Sometimes allegedly non violent drug offenders are quite violent but have not been caught or prosecuted for prior acts. How many of these non violent drug offenders are members of gangs, wherein some or much of the financial gains support the purchase of weapons? The point to remember is each individual case may be different. Facts are considered when incarceration is recommended, and many of these people made bad decisions in life and the justice system required accountability. Some of these individuals can be rehabilitated, but a sizeable number are recidivists, outlaws, and rebels…..and only their change of heart and the grace of God can redirect them back into society.

There is not enough in prison for drug use. Lock more of them up.
